The Charles Koiner Center for Urban Farming
G R O W & G R O W
The Charles Koiner Center for Urban Farming (CKC Farming) is a local land trust, dedicated to protecting urban land for the purpose of agriculture and education.
CKC Farming provides opportunities for urban residents to connect with their food, their land, and their neighbors.
Never before has understanding our natural world been more important. We believe in the power of hands-on farm experience and the appreciation for that which sustains us.
VISIT KOINER FARM
CKC schedules and hosts field trips to Koiner Farm. The best time to come is May through October. Visits typically include a tour of our one-acre farm, age-appropriate farm duties, a farm fresh snack and a take home project.
If you are a teacher or parent interested in scheduling a class visit or would just like some more information, please contact us.
Koiner Farm truly embodies what it means to eat local. Silver Spring residents will not find food with fewer food miles than Koiner Farm produce. Koiner Farm produce travels less than a quarter mile from farm to market!
As a member of MoCo Made - a brand developed by the Montgomery County Food Council and the Montgomery County Economic Development Corporation - we support the local economy by growing and selling our produce right here in Silver Spring.
We sell our fresh fruits and vegetables at the Silver Spring Farmers' Market on Saurdays, 9am-1pm, at the corner of Fenton and Ellsworth.
You can also buy Koiner Farm produce on-site. We're open Monday-Friday from 5-7pm - or if you see one of us out working in the gardens, just stop by, say hi, and we'll gladly pick what you need. You won't find fresher food, than right here at your neighborhood farm!
All proceeds from the sale of our fruits, vegetables, flowers and herbs go towards helping Koiner Farm meet the requirements of the Urban Ag Tax Credit and covering the costs of running the farm in the following year.

MAKE A DONATION TO CKC FARMING
CKC Farming is named in honor of Montgomery County's "First Urban Farmer," Mr. Charlie Koiner. Until the age of 98, Charlie farmed his 1-acre corner plot in downtown Silver Spring. Charlie's legacy lives on through the work of CKC Farming.
CKC Farming needs your support to maintain Koiner Farm and ensure that it remains the peaceful, productive, healthy place that it is for generations to come.
