AUTUMN VOLUNTEER DAY 

Sunday, November 11, 2018 from 10:00am-12:00pm at Koiner Farm

We are looking for help this fall preparing the garden beds for cover crop and clearing out around the garage to make way for more bee hives.  Yes - more bee hives will be joining us next spring!!  Also, we'll have warm apple cider and delicious Baugher's donuts for those who show up at 10am!  All are welcome and we hope you'll join us!

KID FEST 2018 WITH KID MUSEUM

Sunday, Sept. 23, 2018 from 12:00pm-4:00pm at Veteran's Plaza SS

KIDfest is the DC region's premier Maker event for children and their families.  Aimed at reaching children ages 6-12, KIDfest is a joy for all ages.  KIDfest attracts upwards of 15,000 people each year and encourages the exploration of STEM, the arts and other creative pursuits.  CKC will be hosting an exhibit at this year's KIDfest in which visitors will be invited to make water colors from flower petals and paint a mural that will be displayed in the Silver Spring Library.

RISE FOR CLIMATE RALLY WITH 350.ORG

Sunday, Sept. 9, 2018 from 2:00pm-4:00pm in Rockville Town Square

The Rise for Climate rally in Rockville, MD is just one of hundreds of rallies being held across the across the world in support of and preparation for San Francisco's Global Climate Action Summit on September 12-14.  Over the course of this weekend 900+ rallies will take place from DC to the Philippines.  The 350.org Montgomery County chapter is spearheading Montgomery County's participation and response to the Global Climate Summit, so look for more events to come as the Summit approaches.

FAMILY FRIDAY AT THE FARM

Friday, June 29, 2018 from 5:00pm-7:00pm at Koiner Farm

Manna's Mobile Kitchen and Pop-Up Pantry (a 40'-bus, retrofitted with state of the art cooking stations) will be coming to Koiner Farm this summer to host cooking classes for East Silver Spring neighborhood residents.  CKC Farming will have fun activities for the kids and Koiner Farm produce will be on sale at our new farm stand.  We hope you'll join us for this fun summer evening on the farm.

S.P.A.R.K.L.E.R.S. 2018 ANNUAL PICNIC

Wednesday, June 13, 2018 from 2:00pm-4:00pm at Koiner Farm

The S.P.A.R.K.L.E.R.S. are coming back to Koiner Farm this summer for their annual potluck picnic and talk.  This year's topic: "Preserving Koiner Farm for the Next Generation." Talk will be given by Kate Medina, Co-Founder and Director of CKC Farming.  Come hungry - there is always more than enough food for all!

FOOD MATTERS: FOODIE FRIDAYS' SERIES 

Friday, May 25, 2018 from 6:30pm-8:30pm at Brookside Gardens 

Montgomery Parks is launching a new summer speaker series, Food Matters: Foodie Fridays. The series features regional experts that focus on topics such as land preservation, urban farming, community food projects, food access and stories from our area's farmers, educators, chefs, community organizers, and food lovers.  The first session will feature Kate Medina and Hannah Sholder, founders of The Charles Koiner Center for Urban Farming. Their session is titled Preserving the Legacy of an Iconic Montgomery County Farmer and will discuss the ongoing work taking place at Koiner Farm in downtown Silver Spring

MAY FAIR AT PINE CREST ELEMENTARY 

Saturday, May 19, 2018 from 1:00pm-4:00pm at Pine Crest Elementary 

The Pine Crest Elementary School's May Fair is a great opportunity for the school community to come together, reconnect with the outdoors and celebrate another successful school year.  This year, CKC Farming will be hosting an interactive activity on local pollinators and sending each kid home with a pollinator friendly seedling to plant in their yard.

EARTH DAY VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Sunday, April 22, 2018 from 9:00am-12:00pm at Koiner Farm

What better way to celebrate the Earth, than by getting your hands dirty at your local neighborhood farm.  Residents of the East Silver Spring neighborhood are invited to Koiner Farm to help plant lettuce, herbs and flowers, clean out over grown areas, transplant raspberry bushes, spread mulch, construct and repair tomato cages, and other odd jobs.  Please RSVP to kate@ckcfarming.org if you are interested in attending.

HEALTH & WELLNESS NIGHT WITH EAST SILVER SPRING 

Wednesday, March 24, 2018 from 5:00PM-7:00pm at ESSE School

CKC Farming will be participating in the East Silver Spring Elementary School's annual Health & Wellness Night.  The ESSE Health & Wellness Night is one of the school's most celebrated events of the year, in which families come together for a group exercise followed by a healthy meal and valuable tips on nutrition and healthy living.  This year, CKC Farming will be hosting a herb planting activity and sending everyone home with recipes for their herbs.
