KOINER FARM CSA

Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) programs,  have long helped families, farms and communities support one another.  In this spirit of neighbors helping neighbors, Koiner Farm is proud to offer a Sponsorship CSA for the 2020 season.

By purchasing a Koiner Farm Sponsorship CSA, you are doing your part to support a local family in need - not only will you receive a fresh delivery of locally grown produce each week, you will also enable a neighboring family to receive the same weekly share of fresh produce at absolutely no charge to them.

SPONSORSHIP CSA FAQs

1. Who is eligible for Koiner Farm's CSA delivery service?

  • Koiner Farm's CSA is a hyper-local CSA program.  Most produce is picked same day as delivery.  Delivery service is available to customers within approximately a half mile of Koiner Farm.  Our delivery routes are shown in blue on the map below.

2.  What is a Sponsorship CSA and how does it work?

  • A Sponsorship CSA operates in much the same way as other CSAs, except that with a Sponsorship CSA customers pay for two shares - one for their family and one for a family in need.   This is truly an example of neighbors helping neighbors.

3.  How does CKC Farming select the deserving sponsored families?

  • We work with DifferenceMakers.org, at Takoma Park Middle School, to find deserving sponsored families.  Difference Makers are working to connect food distributors with local families in need.  Takoma Park Middle School is located just 1.25 miles from Koiner Farm.

4.  Does Koiner Farm only offer Sponsorship CSAs, or can I buy just one share?

  • Currently, Koiner Farm only offers Sponsorship CSAs.  Our Sponsorship CSA program was created in direct response to this challenging time.   We expect our Sponsorship CSA program to continue throughout 2020, but like everyone, we're taking it day-by-day.

5.  What is the delivery method and schedule for Koiner Farm CSA shares?

  • Koiner Farm's CSA shares are delivered to customers' homes on Fridays. Delivery time is worked out with the customer.  Delivery dates are as follows:

Session I - deliveries on Friday, May 8, 15, 22, 29 and June 5, 12, 19, 26

Session II - deliveries on Friday, July 10, 17, 24, 31 and August 7, 14, 21, 28

Session III - TBD

6. What type agricultural methods are employed by Koiner Farm?

  • Koiner Farm is a local leader in practicing and demonstrating sustainable farming techniques.  While we are not a certified organic farm, we follow the highest organic methods at every opportunity.  Koiner Farm's small size, combined with our team of highly experienced farm managers, enables us to monitor every crop and ensure maximum care.

7. What safety precautions is Koiner Farm undertaking this season?

  • Koiner Farm is currently closed to visitors.  Only permitted workers are allowed on the farm.  Our workers are following all CDC guidelines, including gloves, masks, hand washing, tool washing and distancing.  This said, the CDC has put out a statement that "Currently there is no evidence to support transmission of COVID-19 associated with food."  More information from the CDC on Food Safety this season can be found here.

8. Where is Koiner Farm located and can I come visit?

  • Koiner Farm is located about 2 blocks from the Silver Spring Library at:

737 Easley Street, Silver Spring MD 20902

  • Under normal circumstances, Koiner Farm is open to the public.  However, given the mandatory closing of all non-essential businesses, Koiner Farm is currently closed to the public.  Our farm managers are the only ones who have been issued Essential Agriculture Work permits, and therefore they are the only ones permitted in the gardens at this time.  Please stroll by along Easley and Grove Streets to observe the farm from a safe distance.

9. How do I sign up to receive my Koiner Farm CSA share and become a CSA Sponsor?

  • Koiner Farm's CSAs are currently sold out.  However, we do plan to re-open our CSA program for the September+October session.  Until then, please consider making a donation to CKC Farming so that we can provide the maximum amount of clean, fresh, locally-grown produce to our community.
