FARM TOUR FOR VETERANS WITH ARCADIA

Arcadia’s Veteran Farmer Program is a multilayered, hands-on educational program that develops new farmers; capitalizes on the growing market in local, sustainably grown foods; and encourages entrepreneurship and job creation. The Veteran Farmers will be joining us at Koiner Farm for lunch, farm tour and discussion on making land more affordable for urban farming.
AUTUMN VOLUNTEER DAY

Every Spring and Fall CKC hosts a volunteer day for the community to come and work in the garden beds at Koiner Farm. This fall we will be clearing out some of our beds and laying cover crop, which will return nutrients to the soil. COMMUNITY FOOD RESCUE WEEK

Since farms provide significant opportunities to reduce food waste, Koiner Farm is a great place to kick off Montgomery County's Community Food Rescue Week! There will be a raffle, some light refreshments, a compost demonstration and a farm tour. All are welcome!

MASTER COMPOSTERS TRAINING

This year, the UMD-Extension Master Gardeners are partnering with CKC Farming to host their annual Fall Expo at the Silver Spring Library. Stop by the Silver Spring Library for info on composting and then come on over to Koiner Farm (just 1 block from the library), where you will get to participate in hands-on compost activities - add browns and green, measure temps, turn hot piles, sift cooled compost, ask questions and more.

FUTURE FEST WITH KID MUSEUM

CKC Farming will be exhibiting for the 3rd year in a row at KID Museum's annual fall festival, recently re-branded as, FutureFest! Visitors to CKC's exhibit will get to help Koiner Farm establish its new pollinator garden by creating resting rocks for pollinators. Our exhibit will be located at the corner of Fenton and Ellsworth, to the left of the KID Museum information booth. Hope to see everyone this Sunday!

FAMILY FRIDAY ON THE FARM

KOINER FARM YARD SALE

The CKC interns and volunteers have been hard at work this spring cleaning out Charlie's old garage; and they've found more than a few treasures along the way. Stop by and check out century old farm tools, handmade farm boxes, antique cooking equipment, WWII chests and helmets, and so much more. All proceeds benefit CKC Farming.
EARTH DAY COMPOST BIN CONSTRUCTION
Monday, April 22, 2019 from 9:30am-11:30am at Koiner Farm
Calling all builders! Join us this Earth Day as we finalize the construction of our state-of-the-art, volunteer-built, 3-bin, hot compost system. This 3-bin composter has been made possible with a grant from the Sierra Club. The design and operation of the composter has been provided by the Institute for Local Self-Reliance (ILSR), UMD-Extension Master Gardeners, and the Montgomery County Food Council. Volunteers are welcome to come help us put the finishing touches on the composter this Earth Day. Please RSVP to kate@ckcfarming.org.

FARMER IN THE CLASSROOM

Thanks to the Crossroads Community Food Network for inviting the farmers at Koiner Farm to participate in "Farmer in the Classroom" with the 5th graders at Piney Branch Elementary. We had a blast talking about bees and could not be more impressed by how much these students know about bees. Can't wait for the Piney Branch students to come visit us at Koiner Farm this growing season!

SPRING VOLUNTEER DAY
