The K-8th Urban Farm Field Trip Curriculum is now available! This free resource has been made possible by our amazing staff, as well as contributions from our network of fellow farmers and educators who generously shared their experiences, resources and time. Special thanks to CKC's Farm Educator, Jessie, who dedicated many hours to this curriculum and to the financial supporters of this project, including the Gwendolyn and Morris Cafritz Foundation, the Montgomery County Office of Food Systems Resilience, the Montgomery County Office of Agriculture and our many Friends of the Farm.
Dear Educators,
Visiting our farm offers students a hands-on, real-world learning experience that brings classroom concepts to life. Our K–8th Urban Farm Field Trip Curriculum has been designed to align with grade-level learning goals, while also engaging students in agriculture, science, literacy, environmental stewardship, and food system studies. Through guided activities, observation, and inquiry-based learning, students build connections between what they are learning in the classroom and what they are seeing, smelling, feeling, and even tasting on the farm. Our curriculum connects students to their food, their land, and their community.
The activities in our curriculum support critical thinking, curiosity, and respect for nature, while providing meaningful enrichment for diverse learners and alignment with state standards.
We invite teachers, parents, troop leaders, home schoolers and others to utilize this free resource. Special thanks to the Morris and Gwendolyn Cafritz Foundation, the Montgomery County Office of Food Systems Resilience and the Montgomery County Office of Agriculture for supporting the staff hours to produce this K-8th Urban Farm Field Trip Curriculum.
We welcome your feedback and we aspire to improve upon this document each year. Subscribe to our Newsletter and/or contact jessie@ckcfarming.org if you have any questions.
